1. World Population Day: 11 July

World Population Day is observed annually on 11 July.

The day was established by the governing council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989.The day is meant to focus attention on the urgency and importance of population issues.


2. Taylor Swift emerges as a highest-paid celebrity on Forbes Celebrity 100 list

Singer Taylor Swift has topped the Forbes' Celebrity 100 list and emerged as the highest-paid celebrity with her 2019 estimated earnings to be over USD 185 million.

This is the second time after 2016 that Swift has surpassed all the celebrities which makes her first music artist to outstrip others twice on the list, reported Variety.Swift's 2018 'Reputation' tour became the highest-grossing tour in the US history collecting over USD 266.1 million.Other celebrities on the list include beauty mogul, Kylie Jenner leading the list at No. 2 with estimated earnings of USD 170 million and Kanye West who stood at No.3 with earning over USD 150 million.


3. India, Myanmar to exchange crucial information on drug trafficking

India and Myanmar have resolved to exchange crucial information relating to drug trafficking and precursors.

The decision was taken at the 4th Director General-level talks between Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) in New Delhi.The issues such as the trend of illicit poppy cultivation and heroin production in Myanmar, information on drug trafficking routes, controlled delivery operations, and sharing of best practices and training needs were also discussed.


4. Vihaan Networks signs a pact with Vietnam to develop digital villages

Telecom equipment and solutions provider Vihaan Networks Ltd (VNL) has inked a pact with Vietnam to offer solutions for advancing rural connectivity by developing digital villages in Vietnam.

Embassy of Vietnam has identified 150 remote villages, spread over six provinces to roll out mobile and broadband services in the first phase of its Digital Village programme, in partnership with VN.


5. PM greets people on Kharchi Pooja

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has greeted everyone, especially the people of Tripura on the start of the auspicious Kharchi Pooja.

Kharchi puja is a Hindu festival from Tripura, India. It is the worship of the dynasty deity of Tripuri people, the fourteen gods. It is performed in the month of July August on the eight days of the new moon.


6. Defence Ministry signs MoU with IPFC and NRDC

An MoU was signed between Intellectual Property Facilitation Cell (IPFC), Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence and National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), Ministry of Science and Technology.

The MoU has been signed with a vision to bridge the capacity shortfall and provide a major fillip to the ongoing efforts of Ministry of Defence towards promoting a culture of Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights IPR in Indian Defence industry.The move will be a boost to the Mission Raksha Gyan Shakti. It may be recalled that Mission Raksha Gyan Shakti was launched with the aim to inculcate IP culture in Indian defence manufacturing ecosystem.


7. ICSI launches UDIN to improve corporate governance

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has rolled out an initiative in the form of a Unique Document Identification Number (UDIN) in an attempt to pursue a heightened sense of self-governance and strengthen the practising side of company secretaries.

UDIN will provide ease of maintaining a register of attestation and certification services.The initiative will also enable stakeholders and regulators to verify genuinity of documents signed or certified by company secretaries in practice.


8. CM Kamal Nath allocates budget to promote cattle farming in MP

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath in his first state budget allocated Rs 132 crores for the promotion of cattle farming and livestock.

He has also decided to pay Rs 20 per day for cow protection which was earlier Rs 1.The provision of Rs 1,204 crore has been allocated for the schemes of the Animal Husbandry Department.Under this, a provision of allocating Rs 230 crore has also been made for the animal hospitals.


9. NFR wins Best Innovation Award

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) won the best innovation award in Indian Railways for the 2018-19 fiscal year.

It has won the award for creating Plan Bee, an amplifying system that imitates the buzz of a swarm of honey bees to keep wild elephants away from railway tracks. As part of the award, NFR got a citation along with a cash award of Rs. 3 lakh.


10. Rakhi Halder, Davinder Kaur win gold medals on the second day of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship

Rakhi Halder and Davinder Kaur won a gold medal each in the senior women's section on the second day of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship in Apia Samoa.

India also won five other gold medals in the junior and youth sections.The Commonwealth Championships are being held simultaneously together for the youth, junior and senior categories.On the first day, India had clinched 8 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals in the weightlifting championship.
