1. World UFO Day: 2 July
World UFO Day is celebrated every year on July 2.
It is celebrated to increase awareness among people to keep watch on the skies for any signs of aliens who may come to visit our world.The day reminds us of the possible existence of aliens in the Universe. In summer 1947, the Roswell UFO incident reminds us of world-renowned conspiracy theory about the existence of aliens.
2. India signs Rs 200 crore anti-tank missile deal with Russia
India has signed a deal to acquire 'Strum Ataka' anti-tank missile from Russia for its fleet of Mi-35 attack choppers.
The deal for the missiles is worth around Rs 200 crore and would give an added capability to the Mi-35 attack choppers.The Mi-35s are the existing attack choppers of the Indian Air Force and are set to be replaced with the Apache gunships being acquired from the US.

3. Indian Railways releases new All India Railway Time Table known as Trains At A Glance
Ministry of Railways has released its new All India Railway Time Table known as 'Trains At A Glance' effective from 01 July 2019.
In addition to this, all the 17 Zonal Railways have also released their Zonal Railway Time Tables.The new Trains at a Glance is available on Indian Railways’ official website.
4. Centre constitutes High Powered Panel of CMs for 'Transformation of Indian Agriculture'
Centre has constituted a high powered committee of Chief Ministers of several states for the transformation of Indian Agriculture.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will be the convenor of the committee.Besides, NITI Aayog member Ramesh Chand has been named the Member Secretary.The Committee will discuss measures for the transformation of agriculture and raising farmers' income. It will suggest the modalities for adoption and time-bound implementation of agriculture sector reforms.The panel will suggest a mechanism for linking of market reforms with e-NAM, GRAM and other relevant Centrally Sponsored Schemes.
5. UGC approves new initiative STRIDE to boost research culture
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved a new initiative - Scheme for Trans-disciplinary Research for India’s Developing Economy (STRIDE) to boost research culture in the country.
The scheme will strengthen research culture and innovation in colleges and Universities.STRIDE will help students and faculty to contribute towards India’s developing economy with the help of collaborative research.
6. Govt launches ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’
Union Government has launched Jal Shakti Abhiyan to create awareness on the benefits of water conservation and declining sources of water in the country.
The Jal Shakti Abhiyan has been launched in two phases.The first phase is 1st July to 15th September and is for all participating States and the second phase will be between 1st October to 30th November for States with retreating monsoon.Under Jal Shakti Abhiyan, the focus will be on 256 water stressed districts and 1,592 water stressed blocks. There are five key intervention areas under the movement including water conservation and rainwater harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, reuse, borewell recharge structures, watershed development and intensive afforestation.

7. Eight core sectors record growth of 5.1% in May
The eight core sectors in the country have recorded a growth of 5.1 per cent in May on the back of healthy output in steel and electricity.
These sectors are coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilizer, steel, cement and electricity.They had grown by 4.1 per cent in May last year.

8. Karnam Sekar takes over as Indian Overseas Bank MD and CEO
Indian Overseas Bank has elevated Karnam Sekar as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect
Prior to taking up the new role, Sekas was appointed as an officer on Special Duty and Whole Time Director in April.Sekar, who began his career in State Bank of India as a probationary officer, had served Dena Bank as its Managing Director and CEO.Sekar also headed SBI as Manager-Treasury in Johannesburg, South Africa.
9. N.S. Vishwanathan reappointed RBI deputy governor for one year
Vishwanathan was reappointed as deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India.
The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has approved the extension of Vishwanathan's term as RBI deputy governor by one year with effect from 4 July this year.His tenure was to end 3 July.Vishwanathan is in charge of regulation of banks, non-banking finance companies and cooperative banks.

10. Indian pro boxer Vaibhav Yadav wins WBC Asia title
Indian pro boxer Vaibhav Yadav became the World Boxing Council (WBC) Asia silver welterweight champion after defeating Thailand's Fahpetch Singmanassak in the title bout held in Pattaya, Thailand.
Yadav, a cousin of Commonwealth Games gold-medallist Vikas Krishan who has also turned pro now, clinched a third-round knockout over Singmanassak.The fight was conducted by the Asian Boxing Council and approved by the WBC.
