1. Italy's Prosecco hills added to UNESCO World Heritage list

Italy's Prosecco hills have been added to the World Heritage list by the UN cultural organisation.

The Conegliano and Valdobbiadene hills, where the grapes that produce the famous prosecco sparkling wine are grown.The region became Italy's 55th World Heritage site.The prosecco sparkling white, which has the highest classification available to Italian wine, is produced in a territory spread over nine provinces in Italy's northeast.

2. Key highlights of PM visits Varanasi

The Prime Minister unveiled the statue of former Prime Minister Sh. Lal Bahadur Shastri at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi.

He launched the tree-plantation drive at Anand Kanan Vatika in Varanasi.He also launched Bharatiya Janata Party’s nationwide membership drive in Varanasi coinciding with the birth anniversary of Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee.

3. BSF launches operation ‘Sudarshan’

The Border Security Force (BSF) has launched a massive exercise, codenamed ‘Sudarshan’, to fortify the ‘anti-infiltration grid’ along the Pakistan border in Punjab and Jammu.

The exercise will see the entire BSF’s senior field, thousands of troops and machinery being deployed in these forward areas.The operation was launched on July 1 and will cover the entire over the 1,000-km length of the India-Pakistan International Border.While Jammu shares about 485-km of the border with Pakistan, about 553-km of the front is in Punjab.

4. India successfully tests vertical steep dive version of Brahmos missile

India has successfully tested the vertical steep dive version of the Brahmos supersonic cruise missile that changes the dynamics of conventional warfare.

The upgraded version of the world’s fastest supersonic cruise missile with an enhanced range of up to 500 km is also ready.Brahmos missile, which cruises at almost three times the speed of sound at Mach 2.8, is the heaviest weapon to be deployed on the Su-30 fighters.

5. Maximum senior citizens come from UP followed by Maharashtra

According to Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Rattan Lal Kataria, there are over 10.38 crore senior citizens in the country.

Uttar Pradesh accounts for more than one crore 54 lakh followed by Maharashtra one crore 11 lakh.The Ministry has launched several programmes to enable senior citizens to lead a socially secured life.

6. Assam Govt to develop 316 hundred tourist spots

Assam government has taken a step to develop 316 tourists spot in the state.

Rs 150 crore rupees will be spent to develop these locations under Axom Darshan.Toilet, waste management, drinking water and waiting shades to be built or develop across the state in important locations.

7. Hima Das clinches gold in Kutno Athletics Meet in Poland

Indian sprinter Hima Das won her second international gold in women's 200m with a top finish at the Kutno Athletics Meet in Poland.

Hima clocked 23.97 seconds to clinch the gold while VK Vismaya bagged the silver in 24.06 seconds.This was Hima's second competitive 200m race of the year.National record holder Muhammed Anas also won the gold in men's 200m race with a time of 21.18 seconds.

8. Arinjeeta Dey wins a silver medal in World Youth Cup

Arinjeeta Dey, a 10-year-old girl, has won a silver medal in the World Youth Cup.

The tournament was organised by World Karate Federation affiliated to the International Olympic Association.Arinjeeta won the medal in the under-12 age group category.The tournament was held in Umag, Croatia and a total of 35 countries participated in this competition.

9. United States won FIFA Women's World Cup

The United States won its record fourth Women’s World Cup title defeating the Netherlands 2-0.

This is the fourth time when the United States clinched the World Cup.Before the 2019 triumph, United States won the title in 1991, 1999 and 2015.

The 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup was the eighth edition of the FIFA Women's World Cup. It took place between 7 June and 7 July 2019 in the nine cities of France.

10. Brazilian bossa nova pioneer Joao Gilberto dies

Joao Gilberto, a Brazilian singer, guitarist and songwriter died.

He was considered one of the fathers of the bossa nova genre that gained global popularity in the 1960s and became an iconic sound of the South American nation.Bossa nova is a fusion of samba and jazz that emerged in the late 1950s and gained a worldwide in the 1960s.
