Rest and Motion
Rest-and-motion |
In our daily life, we have been observing the motion of various objects around us e.g. the crawling insects, running animals, flying aeroplanes, flowing rivers, moving vehicles, etc.
and we also see another state of objects in which they are not changing their position like Bus standing on stop, sofa in our home, etc
So mainly there are two position on any object in kinematics according to Newtons Law's One is Rest and another is Motion..
Rest - An object is said to be at rest if it does not change its position with time, with respect to is surroundings. A book Lying on the table , a person sitting in a chair are the few example of Rest.
Motion - An object is said to be in motion if it change its position with time, with respect to its surroundings. A bird flying in air, a train moving on rails, a man walking on a road etc....
rest and motion |
Rest and motion are relative. It mean an object in one situation can be at rest but in another situation the same object in motion.
for illustration , "a person sitting in a moving train is at rest with other passenger but is in motion with respect to the object outside the train."
rest and motion |
"A person sitting in house is rest with respect to earth but is in motion with respect to planets."
motion-frame-of-reference |
"So we take position of rest and motion of any object reference to its surrounding or the other object we have to compare with not universe or other object which not to be compare in our calculation or study".
If an observer is at rest in his or her own frame of reference, but he may be moving in other observer's frame of reference. So if two different observers are not at rest with respect to each other, then they too get different results when they observe the motion or rest of a body.
Type of motion of a body - Mainly the motion of a body can be of following three types
(1) Rectilinear on translatory motion.
Rectilinear motion is that motion in which a particle or point mass body is moving along straight line.
linear |
Translatory motion is the motion in which a body is not a point mass body is moving such that all its constituent particle moving simultaneously along straight lines and shift through equal distance in a given time.
Translatory motion |
(2) Circular and Rotatory motion.
A circular motion is that motion in which a particle or a point mass object is moving on a circle.
A rotatory motion is that motion in which a body is not a point mass body, is moving such that all its
Rotatory motion is that motion in which a body, which is not a point mass body, is moving such that all its constituent particles move simultaneously along concentric, whose centers lie on a line called axis of rotation and shift through equal angle in a given time.
rotatory motion |
(3) Oscillatory or Vibratory motion.
Is that motion in which a body moves to and fro (Forward and Backward/ Up and Down) repeatedly about a fix point (called mean position) in a definite interval of time.
